Been holding onto this beautiful bike for a rich-man’s Rock Combo build or something else xbikey, but I need the funds and the space more than I need yet another vintage mtb. I’m the second owner—was garage kept and hardly ridden by the looks of it. Bone stock with the exception of the saddle and possibly tires. Full Deore XT complement—the dang stock brake pads still lock up! Wearing period-correct Crossroads 26×1.5 tires rather than the factory Ground Controls that I assume were an early, if not time-of-purchase swap for city-friendliness. They hold air, ride fine and still sport their nubbins, but they’re old skinwalls so proceed with caution or flip ‘em. I could throw in some fresher tires and a spare quill stem (to adjust your fit) for the right offer, so just ask if that’s of interest. Seems the original owner removed the head tube, “Comp”, and seat tube stickers for a more subtle look but reproductions can be obtained if desired. Bonus cateye computer with owner’s manual. Sold as-is with a few requisite scrapes, but it’s really in great shape and could use little more than some fresh grease and cables. Super clean for its age and a great base for your next project, or nostalgic addition to the collection. Great size for a taller rider to throw around on the trail, and oversized vintage MTBs can make for a great city bike for shorter riders with some sweepy bars; I’ll include some old north roads style bars upon request for that kind of build. The 21.5 inch seat tube and ~22.5 inch top tube fit me alright at 5’10” but there’s a lot of wiggle room depending on how you set it up and intend to ride it. I could make more parting it out, so spare me the lowball offers, but I will consider selling just the frame set and additional bits of interest if you’re after your own custom bikepacking, dirt drop, or whatever else build. Have some cool dirt drop stuff, various bars and stems in 25.4, 26.0 or 31.8, spare bar end friction shifters and more. Get in touch and I’ll create a new listing if we come to terms on the frameset or a custom package! Thanks for looking and feel free to hit me up if you need more info or photos!
